Technology Committee

[ ]

This committee was charged by the Grand Master in 2002 to use technology to assist Brother Masons and the Grand Lodge of the State of New York to improve operations, attract new members and inform the community of Masonry’s good works. It supports Grand Lodge programs, offices and committees, and assists the Livingston Library & Museum with digital preservation and on-line cataloging of documents and artifacts of our Masonic heritage. It is focused on improving communications and assisting Lodge Secretaries: on-line ordering of supplies; downloadable forms; and the Masonic On-Line Registry Interface (MORI, developed in consultation with the committee and the Grand Secretary’s office).

This committee maintains the Grand Lodge web site at http://www.nymasons.org and plans to assist all Lodges in going online with their own web sites. This provides prospective candidates with useful membership information and a Lodge locator, and Brethren with convenient means of coordinating schedules, promoting activities, etc. Future communications include secure e-mail and audio/video-conferencing. This will facilitate participation around and beyond the state in meetings, St. John’s Day activities, Library/Museum functions and classes of the Masonic University of New York (MUNY).

Technology education, training and technical support are ongoing responsibilities of the committee. It also handles special projects as assigned by the Grand Master.

The committee is committed to ensuring that everything it does is accessible to all our Brethren, despite hearing, vision or physical mobility limitations or any other disabilities. It will provide information on and assistance with deployment of “assistive technologies” to facilitate participation by aging Brothers in Lodge and other off- and on-line Masonic activities. It will explore opportunities to use technology for Masonic relief of distressed Brothers and their families, and for Masonic charity benefiting the broader community.

The committee earnestly solicits technologically skilled and highly motivated Brothers, who can commit time to these important efforts in support of our Craft, to volunteer!
